Short Term Forecast: We begin this Wednesday Morning with mostly cloudy skies and isolated showers. The rain is coming from a stalled cold front that is sitting over us and a disturbance that is moving along it. Temperatures are in the lower 70s.
Look for more scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop throughout the morning and afternoon hours. Some storms could be strong with gusty winds and heavy rain. Otherwise, we will be mostly cloudy, hot and humid with highs in the lower 90s. Some of you may not even get to 90 today if you receive more rain.
The clouds and a few showers will linger tonight. It will be warm and muggy with lows in the lower 70s.
Rest of the Week: The cold front will fall apart along the Louisiana Coast on Thursday and some drier air aloft will move over Baton Rouge. This will limit the amount of storms we will have. You can expect partly cloudy skies with only isolated pop-up variety storms. It will be hotter with highs in the lower 90s. Thursday Night will be partly cloudy and sticky with lows in the lower 70s.
Friday will be another hot day with only pop-up storms expected in the afternoon hours under partly cloudy skies. Highs will be in the lower 90s and lows in the lower 70s on Friday Night with a few clouds.
Weekend Outlook: The forecast models are showing the drier air moving east this weekend and a weak disturbance will move over Louisiana. This will give us a slightly better chance of thunderstorms each day. Therefore, we will be partly cloudy with isolated showers and storms. We stay hot and humid with highs in the lower 90s and lows in the lower 70s at night.
Tropical Outlook: Tropical Depression #2 has emerged back over water in the Southern Bay of Campeche. It is showing some signs of organization and could strengthen a little before it makes landfall a second time in Mexico. The latest information shows TD 2 becoming a tropical storm before landfall, and it would get the name Barry. Once it makes landfall it will quickly dissipate.
Elsewhere...the rest of the tropics are quiet and will stay that way through Thursday.

A Much Better Chance of Showers and Storms Return Today
Short Term Forecast: We have another very warm and muggy start to the day with temperatures in the mid 70s under partly cloudy skies.
Better take your umbrella with you this afternoon since we will have a better chance of rain and storms. This is due to a weak cold front moving into Louisiana from the north and a disturbance moving in from Texas. Those systems will tap into the very warm and humid air mass over Baton Rouge, and this will set off scattered to almost numerous showers and thunderstorms today. A few storms could be strong with gusty winds, heavy rain and a lot of lightning. We will still be hot before the storms develop with high temperatures in the lower 90s.
Some showers and a few thunderstorms will continue tonight as the cold front slowly moves into Baton Rouge. Otherwise, it will be partly to mostly cloudy with lows in the lower 70s.
Week Ahead: The cold front will stall and start to dissipate over Baton Rouge on Wednesday along with another disturbance moving in from the west. This will give us another day of scattered showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain. Highs will only be in the lower 90s, and some of you may not even get that hot. Wednesday Night will have partly cloudy skies with lows in the lower 70s.
Some drier air arrive on Thursday and Friday. This will limit the amount of rain and storms we will see to only a pop-up variety during the afternoon hours. It will be hotter since we will have more sunshine with highs in the lower to mid 90s. Each night will have some clouds with lows in the lower 70s.
Weekend Outlook: It looks like we will see a slight increase in the chance for rain this weekend. A weak disturbance aloft will move over the Deep South and that will help to set off additional showers and storms on Saturday and Sunday. We will not have a washout, but plan for afternoon storms. It will stay hot and humid with highs in the lower 90s and lows in the lower 70s.
Tropical Outlook: Tropical Depression #2 formed yesterday in the NW Caribbean. It has moved inland over Belize and Guatemala with 30 mph winds. It is moving WNW at 8 mph and will continue to track inland today. It looks like it could emerge in the Bay of Campeche on Wednesday. There is a chance it could try to redevelop, but it depends on just how long it sits over the water. At this time the NHC is keeping it a tropical depression before it makes a second landfall in Mexico late this week.
Elsewhere...the rest of the tropics are quiet.
Be sure to have your umbrella with you and have a great day! -Dave

Tropical Depression # 2 Has Formed In The NW Caribbean
Invest 93L has become Tropical Depression # 2 in the NW Caribbean. Visible satellite images show the cluster of showers and storms has developed a surface circulation with 35 mph winds.
It is forecast to make landfall tonight in the Yucatan Peninsula near Belize and then move into the Bay of Campeche later tomorrow. It could possibly become stronger and become a tropical storm by Thursday before it makes a 2nd landfall in Mexico with 40 mph winds.
We DO NOT have to worry about this storm in Louisiana. Stay tuned to WBRZ and my weather blog for updates on this system.

More Heat With Some Pop-Up Afternoon Storms Today
Short Term Forecast: It is a warm and muggy Monday morning across the Capital City. We have some clouds here in town and there are some showers popping up already in South Mississippi. Those showers are moving to the east and out of the viewing area. Temperatures are in the mid 70s.
We will have another afternoon just like we did on Sunday...partly cloudy, hot and humid with pop-up showers and storms. Some storms could have heavy rain and a lot of lightning. High temperatures will be in the lower to mid 90s. The heat index will be around 100 to 105.
The storms will continue through the evening and then dissipate by 10 PM. Then we will be left with a few clouds and muggy temperatures in the mid 70s.
Week Ahead: I'm watching a weak cold front that is moving toward the Southeast U.S. on Tuesday. This will stall and fall apart over the Baton Rouge area by mid-week before a ridge of high pressure builds over us by the end of the week. We will have partly cloudy skies on Tuesday with those isolated pop-up afternoon storms. Highs will be in the lower 90s and lows in the lower 70s Tuesday Night with a few clouds.
Wednesday and Thursday look to be the wettest days of this week, and we could get some decent rainfall too. This is thanks to the stalled cold front that will sit over us both days. On top of that, a few disturbances will also move across the Deep South. Combine those factors with hot and humid weather and we get scattered to almost numerous showers and thunderstorms each day. Some storms could be strong with gusty winds, heavy rain and a lot of lightning. High temperatures will be in the lower 90s. Each night will have partly to mostly cloudy skies with some lingering showers. Lows will be in the lower 70s.
The front will dissipate by Friday, and some drier air aloft will move in. This will limit the amount of storms we will see, but we will still have to dodge a few afternoon pop-up storms. It will be a little hotter with highs in the lower to mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s Friday Night.
Weekend Outlook: Saturday will be hot and humid as the ridge of high pressure and that dry air sits over us. We will have to dodge a few afternoon storms with partly cloudy skies. Highs will be in the lower 90s and lows in the mid 70s Saturday Night.
Looks like the ridge will slide to the east on Sunday and that will allow for some more moisture to return. This will increase the chance of some afternoon storms. Highs will be in the lower 90s and lows in the lower 70s.
Tropical Outlook: I'm watching a tropical wave in the NW Caribbean Sea. It is a little more organized, but does not show a sign of surface circulation. It is moving to the west and will move inland over Honduras, Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula the next few days. NHC is giving it a medium chance, 30%, of development.
Elsewhere...the rest of the tropics are quiet, and tropical cyclone formation is not expected through Tuesday.
Stay cool and have a great Monday! -Dave

Very Hot and Humid With Some Storms On Father's Day Weekend
Short Term Forecast: Good Friday Afternoon! Whew...it sure is HOT! Right now it is 94° with a heat index of 105° in Baton Rouge. We have some isolated showers & t'storms popping up along a cold front & sea breeze. Some of the storms could become strong to possibly severe with gusty winds & heavy rain. Temperatures will stay in the lower to mid 90s and the heat index 100° to 110°. Please be sure to drink plenty of water and try to stay in the A/C today!
The storms will end tonight and we will be left with mainly clear skies. It will be a few degrees "cooler" with lows in the lower 70s vs. upper 70s this morning.
Father's Day Weekend: An area of high pressure will sit over us on Saturday and this will give us partly cloudy skies with only one or two pop-up storms. It will be very hot & humid with highs in the mid 90s. The heat index will still be around 105° at times!
Sunday, Father's Day, will still be very hot and humid, but we will have a little better chance of some isolated storms popping up. This is thanks to moisture returning in the upper-levels of the atmosphere. We will have highs in the mid 90s with the heat index around 105°.
Next Week Outlook: Monday is shaping up to be a pretty dry day with only a storm or two possible, but it will be hot with highs in the mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s.
More unsettled weather is expected Tuesday through Friday. Each day will be partly cloudy with isolated showers and storms as a weak trough of low pressure and cold front move toward Louisiana. They won't get to Baton Rouge, but will be close enough to set off some storms. This will bring a little relief to the heat with daily highs in the lower 90s and lows in the lower 70s.
Tropical Outlook: All is quiet in the tropics, and it will stay that way through the weekend. Forecast models are hinting at a tropical wave moving out of the Caribbean into the Bay of Campeche late next week, but it does not look like it will impact Louisiana.
I hope all the Dads out there, including mine, have a great Father's Day Weekend! -Dave
